This piece was written in response to Naviarhaiku253 – the piano man.

The piano man
is stingy at 3 A.M.
his songs drop like plum.

This is a haiku by Etheridge Knight. On the back of his 1968 debut collection, Poems from Prison, Knight stated “I died in Korea from a shrapnel wound, and narcotics resurrected me. I died in 1960 from a prison sentence and poetry brought me back to life.”

Stingy at 3 A.M. was written for Trombone, Bass Trombone and Piano.
